TFT color LCD screens offer multiple communication interfaces. This article compares the three most commonly used interface solutions.

1. UART Serial Interface

Advantages:

  • Simple wiring (only TX/RX two wires)
  • Low development difficulty (send commands to operate)
  • Supports long-distance transmission (RS485 up to 1200m)
  • Does not occupy MCU GPIO resources

Disadvantages:

  • Relatively lower transmission rate
  • Not suitable for high-frame-rate video playback

Applicable Scenarios: Industrial control, medical instruments, smart home

2. SPI Interface

Advantages:

  • Higher transmission rate (up to tens of MHz)
  • Full-duplex communication
  • Fewer wires (4 wires: MOSI/MISO/CLK/CS)

Disadvantages:

  • Requires driver programming on the MCU side
  • Short transmission distance (<1m)
  • Occupies more MCU resources

Applicable Scenarios: Embedded systems, applications requiring high refresh rates

3. Parallel Interface

Advantages:

  • Highest transmission rate (8/16/32-bit data bus)
  • Best real-time performance

Disadvantages:

  • Occupies a large number of GPIO pins (8~32)
  • Complex wiring
  • Highest development difficulty
  • Difficult PCB layout

Applicable Scenarios: High-performance display requirements, systems with ample GPIO
